Science - Mini Worlds

This self paced course aligned to The Australian Curriculum incorporates a variety of curriculum areas. The course begins with the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle,  children will explore a range of Literacy and Numeracy based activities built around the story.

The remainder of the course provides them with the opportunity to explore and research other mini beasts incorporating Literacy, Art, Mathematics, Science and Creative and Critical Thinking Skills into the remaining tasks.

These lessons can be done at any time and any in sequence after completing the first session.

Unit Skills and Objectives:

• recognising common features of animals such as head, legs and wings
• exploring different characteristics of life stages in animals such as egg, caterpillar and butterfly
• recognising that living things have predictable characteristics at different stages of development
• sorting information and classifying objects based on easily observable characteristics
• researching with the use of simple information sources
• using vocabulary, including technical vocabulary, appropriate to text type and purpose
• knowing and identifying the days of the week
• Recognising healthy foods
